- The combined effect of pressure and moving water generates electricity in a reaction turbine. These turbines are designed to produce the most power possible from a low available water head and high velocities. Reaction turbines account for over 60% of turbines used in hydropower plants.
- In May of 2018, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) was awarded a contract by SJVN Arun-3 Power Development (SAPDC) to develop the 900 MW Arun-3 hydroelectric project. Under the USD 80 million contract, BHEL is required to design, manufacture, supply, and commission four vertical 225 MW Francis turbines and generator sets.
